1. The short version
Metrigram is operated in the United Kingdom by Roger Hamilton under the business name Narrow Gate Labs.
No account. No ads. No sale of your data. Metrigram is Apple-native and local-first. Narrow Gate Labs does not maintain a central customer health-profile database.
Your core record stays on your Apple devices, in Apple Health and, for Metrigram-owned data you choose to sync, in your private iCloud database. Narrow Gate Labs receives only the limited information needed for a specific online feature, service security, privacy-safe aggregate analytics, purchase verification or support.
2. Where your data lives
Your devices
Metrigram stores the record you create locally on your Apple devices. This can include foods, recipes, meals and plans; nutrition totals and targets; training plans, routines, workouts and performance history; caffeine, supplements, notes and other entries or preferences you choose to add.
Metrigram includes a simple symptom tracker. It does not diagnose symptoms, interpret them medically, or provide treatment or guidance based on them. With your permission, supported structured symptoms are stored in and read from Apple Health. Symptom notes and custom or unsupported symptoms stay only on the device where they are entered. They are not sent to Apple Health, Metrigram's iCloud/CloudKit sync, AI services or analytics, and leave that device only when you deliberately include them in a user-initiated export.
Apple Health
With your permission, Metrigram can read supported Apple Health data such as workouts, activity, body measurements, sleep, heart and respiratory measures, cardio fitness, temperature, mindful minutes, State of Mind and supported symptom information. HealthKit-derived history such as weight, sleep, heart rate and activity remains Apple Health-authoritative and is not copied wholesale into Metrigram's CloudKit records.
When you enable the relevant action, Metrigram can write supported nutrition, weight, workout or structured symptom data to Apple Health. Apple controls Health permissions, and you can change them at any time in Apple Health or Settings. Metrigram does not use Health data for advertising, sell it or share it with data brokers.
Private iCloud
Metrigram-owned food, nutrition, recipes, planning and training data, together with appropriate product settings and state, may sync across your devices through your private Apple iCloud/CloudKit database. HealthKit-derived histories and Metrigram symptom records are not part of this private-iCloud sync. This is not a Narrow Gate Labs customer-account database.
3. When Metrigram uses online services
AI-assisted capture
Most nutrition and training functionality is deterministic and does not require an AI request. Metrigram mainly uses remote AI for food-photo interpretation and, occasionally, an unresolved Voice or Describe input that the local recognition route cannot complete.
Only the image, description, transcript or other input needed for that request is sent through our protected backend to a contracted recognition provider. Your broader Metrigram record, Apple Health profile and symptom content are not sent. Results remain reviewable and editable before they are logged.
Aggregate analytics and security
Metrigram shares tightly limited anonymous product analytics by default to help improve the app. You can turn Share Anonymous Analytics off at any time in Settings. Events cover fixed categories such as features used and whether important actions succeed or fail, and are stored as aggregate daily counters rather than customer profiles or raw event histories.
Analytics do not contain food descriptions, searches, photos, Health data, symptom content, workout details, voice content, names, email addresses or persistent user or device identifiers. Firebase App Check and limited operational information help protect the service from abuse and keep it reliable.
Apple purchases, support and website visits
Apple handles payment details. Metrigram receives verified subscription and transaction status needed to provide access and restore purchases. If you contact support, we process your email address, message and anything you choose to send. Please do not include sensitive health details unless they are necessary.
The Metrigram website does not use advertising trackers or behavioural advertising. Its hosting and security providers may process ordinary request information such as an IP address, browser details, request time and security events needed to deliver and protect the site.
Why limited information is processed
We process personal information only where needed to provide Metrigram and features you choose to use, operate and protect the service, meet legal obligations, or pursue legitimate interests in running Metrigram safely and effectively. Where consent is required, we ask for it before the relevant processing.
Health information is accessed only with the permissions you grant through Apple Health. Where particular processing requires additional consent or another legal basis, Metrigram handles it in accordance with applicable data-protection law.
Information is shared only as needed with Apple, Google Firebase, contracted recognition and food-data providers, hosting or support providers, professional advisers, or where required by law. We do not sell personal data or share it for behavioural advertising. Some providers may process information outside the UK or European Economic Area using recognised legal safeguards where required.
4. Retention and deleting your data
Records on your devices and in your private iCloud remain there until you edit or delete them. Narrow Gate Labs does not hold a central copy of your Metrigram or Apple Health record.
To delete your core Metrigram record: delete Metrigram from all your devices; when Apple offers the choice, choose whether to delete related Apple Health data; then delete Metrigram's private iCloud data through Apple Settings. There is no account-deletion portal, and no support request is required.
Inputs sent for a specific remote request are processed only as needed to provide and protect that feature. Limited provider, operational and security records may remain for a short period under the applicable service controls. Purchase-verification information is retained as needed to provide access, prevent abuse and meet legal requirements. Support correspondence is retained while we handle the issue and for a reasonable period afterwards. Anonymous aggregate counters cannot ordinarily be connected back to you or selectively deleted after aggregation.
5. Your choices and legal rights
You control Apple Health access, device permissions, anonymous analytics and the entries you create. You can correct or delete individual Metrigram records in the app and can remove the complete local and private-iCloud record using the steps above.
Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing by Narrow Gate Labs, and to receive a portable copy of relevant personal data. You may withdraw consent at any time where processing relies on consent. To make a request about the limited information Narrow Gate Labs holds, email [email protected].
UK users may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. Exercising a right does not affect processing that was lawful before the request.
6. Security, age, changes and contact
Security
We use technical and organisational safeguards appropriate to the information involved, including Apple platform protections, private CloudKit storage, protected backend requests and strict limits on analytics content. No system can guarantee absolute security.
Age
Metrigram is for adults aged 18 or over and is not directed to children.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as Metrigram changes or legal requirements develop. The date at the top shows the latest revision, and material changes will be communicated in an appropriate way.
